My parents got their power back at 3:30 am today. They have been without power since 3:45 Saturday morning.
A lot of people are still without power but they are getting back to normal.
Galveston Island will probably spend the winter cleaning up the island and repairing the damaged buildings. From what I have read the major historical buildings were not damaged. These would be the old homes that line Broadway. The hotels along the Seawall have some damage but nothing that can not be repaired.
The Strand was flooded as one would imagine, but I am sure they were prepared for this and just have to clean up.
Downtown Houston lost a lot of windows in their tall buildings. But again nothing that can not be repaired.
The surrounding towns and states will spend the next several weeks repairing, cleaning and rebuilding what they can. And life will go on as it always does.
