There is a huge debate that is currently in all the grapevines around America and I have no doubt the world. The debate is regarding the ethics and responsibility of doctors and would be parents conceive using modern medicine.
Several weeks ago a woman in California gave birth to 8 babies, while having 6 children at home. So now she has 14 children to care for. But wait, she lives at home with her parents and has no job. Her mother has been caring for her other 6 children while she has been confined to a hospital bed since her 23rd week of the pregnancy. To read the story and not say "What was this woman thinking? would be nearly impossible. But on the other hand what was the doctor thinking? He knew of the existing children who were all conceived artificially. He knew she had no job and no home of her own.
My only guess is both were thinking dollar signs. As soon as word got out about this so called miracle birth people across the country were calling to donate baby items. One report said the mother was looking to make $2 million dollars per interview. What would the interviewer ask? How are you going to take care of 14 children? Where are you going to get the money to raise 14 children? How are you going to cloth 14 children? These questions are all good but with $2 mil an interview I can see the answers already.
Her mother has already expressed very vocally her disgust and anger over this situation and has said she will not be home when the newest 8 come home. Can you blame her, she is expected to help raise 14 kids and pay for everything as well.
I love to hear them say "It's god's will that I had a litter" no it's not. God's will was for you not to be able to conceive at all. That was his will, you chose to usurp his will with medical science. If god had intended for humans to have 8 children at one time women would have more boobs. Do you see cats and dogs with two boobs? No because they are expected to have multiple babies and therefore their body is prepared to nurture multiple babies.
I personally hope that what ever board governs this doctor takes a serious look at his actions and reprimands him for his lack of common sense. His punishment could be that he has to take over the grandmothers role as bread winner and diaper changer. I doubt he will be doing this again after a week with 14 children.
